What is the difference between static pressure and total pressure?

Static pressure (Ps) is the pressure exerted by the fan that does not involve air movement, it’s the pressure measured in a sealed, stable environment.

Total pressure (Pt) is the sum of static and velocity pressures:
Pt = Ps + Pv
This total pressure is what the fan must overcome when moving air through a system such as ducts or enclosures.
